As the symptoms of diabetes come slowly and gradually. It is a general fact that by the time a person suffering from diabetes goes for consultation, he/she may have suffered from diabetes for a few months or even years.

Some of the symptoms which apply to all types of diabetes are:

1. Frequent urination

2. Excessively thirsty

3. Extreme hunger

4. Unusual weight loss or gain

5. Increased fatigue

6. Irritability

7. Blurry vision

8. Slow healing sores or frequent infections

Excessive thirst and frequent urination are the most common symptoms of diabetes. This is caused due to the high sugar level in blood. Because of the high sugar level, the kidneys are forced to work for more time to absorb the excessive sugar from our blood. Hence, the frequent urination which results in dehydration and the end result is excessive thirst.

Unusual weight loss or gain can also be a symptom of diabetes. Due to frequent urination, the sugar level may decrease, but it also results in loss of calories. This is the reason for weight loss. Similarly diabetes can also prevent sugar in food to reach the body cells and hence the constant hunger.

Increased fatigue is also the result of improper use of sugar in our body due to diabetes, and one may feel irritable because of this.

High sugar levels in blood can also pull fluid from body tissues, including the lenses of eyes. This affects the ability to focus and results in blurry vision. Due to the low fluid in body tissues, it also results in dry skin in people suffering from diabetes.

If the wounds and bruises on one's body are healing slowly or are developing into an infection, it may also be a sign of diabetes. The body's power of natural healing is weakened due to the high blood sugar levels.

Some of the other symptoms of diabetes are tingling sensations in hands and feet; red, swollen, tender gums; loss of sensation in hands and feet.

These are few of the common symptoms that generally occur with the onset of diabetes. So, do check yourself for these symptoms and consult a doctor if the need arises.
