Diabetes Cure
One of the most common diseases which is affecting the majority of the population is diabetes. This is a disease that has no cure at present and is caused due to insufficient insulin or abnormal insulin or indifference to the insulin produced. Insulin is required for regulating the level of sugar in blood. Insulin is also responsible for helping the cells to take sugar from the blood stream in order to get energy. There are mainly two types of diabetes - Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes or as insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). It was formerly known as juvenile diabetes as this was thought to be seen only in children. But later studies showed that similar type of diabetes affects adults too and hence the name has been changed to type 1 diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, there is a damage or defect in the cells that produce insulin. This damage may have been due to an infection to the pancreas. This causes a deficiency in insulin produced. That is the normal amount of insulin cannot be produced by the people suffering from type 1 diabetes.
On the other hand, in type 2 diabetes, (Type 2 diabetes is also known as non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) the exact cause is not found. In some cases, diabetes is caused due to the cells not being able to respond to insulin properly. In other cases, diabetes may also be caused as there may be some abnormality in the insulin produced.
There are oral medications available to help regulate the blood sugar level for diabetes. And for type 1 diabetics, various ways of administering insulin into the blood stream are there. It is also being said now a days that cinnamon (about half a teaspoon a day) is very good in treating type 2 diabetes as it helps in bringing down the blood sugar level as an enzyme in it acts just like insulin. But a permanent, effective and most importantly successful cure for diabetes is yet to be found. Some of the present experimental cures are:
1. Pancreas transplantation
2. Islet cell transplantation (these are the cells that are responsible for the production of insulin)
3. Artificial pancreas development
4. Stem cells
So let us hope that there is a significant break through in the medical field and a permanent cure for diabetes is found.
